Approximately 1 of every 66 children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in Canada. To highlight Autism Awareness Month, we met with two clients of Miriam Home and Services. Ilan is a young autistic boy with a big heart filled with joy, who has been receiving services at Miriam for close to two years. His mom, Elizabeth,and one of his specialized educators, Martin Roy, tell us about Ilan's progress since he's been coming to Miriam Home, and how Ilan has developed new skills through the Centre’s specialized programs.
Andrew is an 18 year-old who loves to sing and make his own pop music videos. Andrew has been receiving services at Miriam Home and Services for two years. Along with his Special Care Counsellor, Miria de Muri, they both explain how being a client of Miriam Home has improved his social skills and how he interacts with the world, especially while navigating social media platforms.
